ABOUT Sarah
New York-based artist Sarah Wright, creates work that challenges presence and urgency in our environments and communities through ceramic archival practice, collaborative figurative drawing, and performance work.
Her ceramic pieces transform vintage garments into permanent records, examining what deserves permanence in a culture built on disposability. Drawing from twenty years in fashion design, she incorporates site-specific materials (volcanic ash, organic matter, found elements) into sculptures that bridge art and function.
Wright's collaborative figurative practice involves working with models and communities internationally, layering drawings over time to explore authorship, participation, and creative transparency. This work extends into performance pieces that make collaborative processes visible in real time.
Her practice embraces both intention and surrender, allowing gravity and fire to collaborate in ceramic creation while fostering community engagement through performance work, and collaborative projects. Wright has exhibited internationally, led sustainability initiatives in partnership with the UN Office for Partnerships, and completed a residency in Iceland. Based in New York, she continues investigating how art-making can foster meaningful connections between people, places, and material culture.
